Sweetwater brand Oil Water separators removes harmful oils from the input feed water.  These pre-treatment units protect onboard reverse osmosis systems. All reverse osmosis desalination systems utilize expensive membrane filtration units for the purification of sea water into potable water. When in or near harbour, the intake to the reverse osmosis system has a high probability of taking in oil and fuel contaminated feed water. The membranes will foul and fail in the presence of even a small amout of hydrocarbon contamination resulting in costly maintenance or replacement bills.
